Garter Belt Makeover :)

Garter Belts also known as Suspender Belts are used to hold up thigh high stockings :) as most of you already know. I brought a black garter belt from my local department store for what I would say quite cheap,  $25.00 but it was really plain and had a small nude coloured bow with a diamante attached, now personally I'm not a huge fan of the colour nude but that's just me...anyway this is how I pimped up my garter belt, hope you guys like!!!! :)

Things you will need

You will need:

  • 2 meters of chain
  • 1 meters of ribbon
  • thread either silver to match the chain and one to match the ribbon (I used transparent)
  • garter belt
  • wire cutters
  • needle
  • pins
  • shears
  • and I used the diamante that came off mine but you could get creative and used whatever you want, from like sequins, buttons to charms and beads :D

My before picture :D

Step 1: So depending on how big you want your loops, will tell you how much chain you need, I brought 2 meters and my two front loops were 20cm my second larger loop was 29.5cm and my back loops were 17.5cm but first things first you need to mark the centre of the garter belt by folding it in half and lining up the 2 front garter clips and the two back one, so you two front ones should be together and your two back ones should also be lined up then put a pin in the top to mark the centre of the belt. Then I started from the centre and worked my way towards each end completing the left side first, So make your loops pinning the chain on for now and when you have your desired length and number of loops cut the chain. :)

Step 1
Step 2: When I had my chain at the length and position that I wanted them at and they are all pinned on. I took a needle and my transparent thread and  hand stitched the chain to my garter belt.

Step 2
Step 2

Step 3: Next thing is to take your pink ribbon and make a bow, I attached my diamante using my transparent thread. You don't have to use a bow either you could use buttons, fabric flowers arranged in a bunch pretty much anything goes for this. :)

Step 3
Step 4:  Once the front bow is attached, then make 4 more small bows, one for each garter clip attach them just below the original stitch where the small piece of fabric is attached to the garter clip itself.

Step 4

Finished!! This is what my finished garter belt looked like :) Remember  you can just about use anything so get creative!!!!  :) hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
